Countless books have been written about living the “ideal” or “perfect” Christian life. The problem is, not many of us are “perfect” or “ideal” Christians, no matter how hard we try. Therefore, this is not a book about being a “perfect” or “ideal” Christian; this is a book about being a struggling Christian. The Long Run Home is about living the Christian life while battling demons of the past, temptations of the present, and the uncertainty of the future.
As a lifelong runner, Kurt uses this sport as the ultimate metaphor to make sense of his own struggle in his walk with Jesus. His faith — much like his running career — has fluctuated from average to exceptional to far-below-average.
The Long Run Home is not about winning the race, it is about the constant struggle to merely keep running.
“And let us run with endurance
the race God has set before us.”
